Priority Check

 Ephesians 5:16-17

Today, my children and I are at home because of the inclement weather.  Since they are at home, that always limits my options on what I can get accomplished. So, while contemplating how to organize my day, I received a text from a friend who was checking on me. Throughout the conversation, I shared with her all of the projects that I am working on and expressed how busy I am.

As I re-read the text to make sure that everything was clear before I sent it, I had a pause moment. Pause moments are when God places something or someone in my path to remind me to self-exam.  The text was filled with a “to do” list of things that I needed to accomplish for work and in my personal life.  Nowhere did I mention that I needed to pray and spend time with God.

Whoa! In my attempt to make sure that I am balancing my full-time job, ministry, household duties, children, relationships, etc..I did not add the most important person in my life to the top of my list. Some of you may not have the same problem.  You may always start every day with a devotional time of praying and reading your word. In my world, sometimes I find myself only getting that devotional time at the end of the night when everyone is asleep or if I get a break at work.  If I am not careful, I can spend many hours of the day going through my routine before I speak to my Father.

Our Father is so loving.  When my life starts to veer off course, if I listen, God always speaks to me to help me to get things back in order.  I do not feel like God is condemning me when I need to examine the things in my life that I allow to take precedence. Instead, I receive His love that brings conviction to help me to stay on course.

Ephesians 5:15-17 says, to be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.  To make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. To not act thoughtlessly, but to understand what the Lord wants you to do.  What does God want you to do?

He wants me to never forget to make time for Him and to always remember to start my day with Him as the focus.  Before I get out of bed, I need to thank Him for waking me up and for giving me another day to serve Him. Even if I do not have a lot of time in the morning, I need to ask God to guide me on His plans for the day.

The most important thing that He is teaching me is that when I acknowledge Him and when I commit my day to Him, He will direct me Proverbs 3:6. When this precedent is set, then I will have the time to get the things accomplished that are in accordance with His desires for my life.

Amen. We should command our day to God in the morning…..and trust Him to lead us and direct us. Thank you for sharing your pause moment.

An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do believe that you ought to write more about this issue, it might not be a taboo matter but typically folks don’t discuss such subjects. To the next! Many thanks!!
